Carbon Offsets To Alleviate Poverty

About

Carbon Offsets To Alleviate Poverty (www.COTAP.org) is a crowdfunding site for forestry projects in least-developed countries. COTAP connects individuals' CO2 emissions with certified projects which create life-changing income for the world's poorest people: smallholder farmers living on less than $2/day. Individuals and organizations from all over the United States - as well as from Hong Kong, Cape Town, Sydney, and Paris – have transformed over 7.8 million pounds of their carbon emissions into wages in Mozambique, Uganda, Nicaragua, and Malawi through COTAP. COTAP transforms the market-based tool of carbon credits into a new form of transparent and accountable philanthropy. COTAP’s initial project portfolio is poised to generate over $1 million in community payments, an amount it seeks to scale to $30M annually. At that scale COTAP will generate $3+ million per year in nonprofit earned income. Contributions to COTAP's startup costs are 100% tax-deductible for U.S. residents.
